Broca's Aphasia
A form of aphasia caused by damage to posterior portion of the left frontal cortex.
Patients suffering from Broca's aphasia show relatively good language comprehension but disrupted production. Moreover, the speech they produce is 'agrammatic'.
Though it may appear at first glance that a Broca's aphasic has lost intonation because his speech is so fragmented, closer analysis reveals that the correct stress pattern is used (despite the many breaks in the sentence), so that it is clear whether the patient is making a statement or asking a question.
