Categorical (Taxonomic) Relations

A method of organizing objects where objects belonging to the same category/taxonomy are sorted into one group.

E.g., if an eight-year-old child is asked to sort pictures of people, pets, vehicles, articles of clothing, and so on, s/he will most likely put all the vehicles together, all the pets together, all the people together, etc.

Children of age 7 or older are likely to sort objects on the basis of their taxonomic category.

Related terms: Thematic Relations
