Interference Theory of Forgetting

Interference theory of forgetting is the hypothesis that materials are lost from memory because of intereference from other materials in memory.

If the interference is caused by materials learned prior to the learning episode, this is called proactive interference.

If the intereference is caused by materials learned after the learning episode, this is called retroactive interference.
