Intonation Pattern of Speech
Intonation pattern of speech stands for the rises and falls in pitch and loudness that not only indicate emphasis and emotional tone, but also provide some grammatical cues.
Intonation pattern of speech is one of the aspects of language that the right cerebral hemisphere is responsible for.
In cases of right-hemisphere damage, speech seems superficially normal, with the pronunciation and grammar being accurate.
However the patients with such damage speak with little or no intonation and their judgments of the emotional tone of sentences said by others is worse than that of aphasics.
