Synesthesia

Synesthesia is a condition in which sensory information from one modality (e.g., audition) creates a sensation in another modality (e.g., visual).

Most people have some synesthetic experiences, for example associating high-pitched tones with overly bright light.

Few individuals, however, have rare synesthetic abilities, e.g, to hear, taste and see various qualities of words they are reading.
