Thematic Relations
Thematic relations refers to a method of organizing objects based on thematic/topical connections between them.
E.g., if a five-year-old child is asked to sort pictures of people, pets, vehicles, articles of clothing, and so on, s/he might place together a woman and a car ("women drive cars"), a boy, a coat and a dog ("the boy will wear a coat when he walks the dog").
Children of age 6 and younger are likely to sort objects accordingly to their thematic category.
