Transfer-appropriate processing is processing of a stimulus that prepares the person for an upcoming test.
To judge processing as 'transfer-appropriate', one must consider the following:
the initial processing, which promotes a set of skills
the subsequent processing, to which those skills may be applied (or 'transfered')
