Typicality Effects

Typicality effects refer to any of a number of experimental effects in which 'typical' category members have an advantage, relative to atypical category members.

Thus, people are quicker to verify "A robin is a bird", than they are to verify "A heron is a bird".

Likewise, they are more likely to name 'robin' if asked to name a bird than they are to name 'heron'.
